Author believes the occupation of Kiao-chow marks (pp. x-xi) the “beginning of the new period” of German colonisation, namely, the “_imperialist_” period (p. x and p. xi), the period of “world policy” (ibidem).

In Brazil they “are not Germanising, but Americanising the south of Brazil” (p. 154)
