Most of our contributors to this issue are well known to regular readers: Tony Cliff as the author of Stalinist Russia, a Marxist analysis, Rosa Luxemburg and a host of other works; Hal Draper, as an ex-editor of Labor Action and a current member of the editorial board of New Politics in the United States; Andre Giacometti, as a writer on international trade union affairs; and Alasdair MacIntyre as a frequent contributor to this and other journals, and a teacher of philosophy. H Orlando Patterson, whom we introduce for the first time, is 23. Jamaican by birth and upbringing, he is now at the London School of Economics on a Commonwealth Scholarship, doing research on the social psychology of slavery. His second novel, The Children of Sisyphus, will be published by Hutchinson in March.
