Listen To Him Talk ... (Winter 1965/66) (original) (raw)

From International Socialism, No.23, Winter 1965/66, p.8.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

Listen to him talk
Of first cast stones, water to wine,
Parables and salty sermons,
His head ringing,
Singing with sabbaths.
Virtue drops loosely from his drunken tongue,
As he juggles our sins
(Only three in the air at a time)
Like a paid trouper.

Pickled in salvation’s everlasting vinegar,
Flaunting his piracy of false promises,
This freelance puritan,
From his cold wintry soap box,
Preaches the good summer of humanity;
As he struggles helplessly to find the guts
To tackle his own genesis.
