Name:
Named in 1839 by Gustav Rose in honor of Konstantin Vladimirovich Chevkin (Константин Владимирович Чевкин) (26 April 1803, Kamianets-Podolsk, Ukraine - 3 November 1875, Nice France), Chief of Staff of the Russian Corps of Mining Engineers. Originally named simply chevkinite, the suffix was added by the IMA in 1987 to follow the Levinson rule for denoting the dominant rare-earth element.
Easily confused with perrierite-(Ce).
May bear some Ti3+ that may be related to Nb(V) enrichment (Stachowicz, 2019).
