Name:

Named in honor of Brian Young (b. 1947, Sunderland, England, UK), a field geologist and mineralogist with the British Geological Survey. He is an expert on the minerals of northern England, and collected the first specimens for study.

A secondary zinc carbonate-sulphate visually similar to hydrozincite.

General Appearance of Type Material:

White rosettes, <100 µm, consisting of very thin (~1-2 µm) blades that taper to a sharp point.

Geological Setting of Type Material:

On limestone. A secondary mineral found in an adit, formed by waters passing through the mineralized rocks above.
