NFP: Images of William Rufus (1056-1100) (original) (raw)

William Rufus (1056-1100) - King of England 1087-1100

William was the second son of his predecessor, William the Conqueror. Upon his death, his father divided England and Normandy between William and his elder brother. However, neither was satisfied with half a kingdom and Williams reign was mostly taken up with invasions of Normandy. He was not a very nice man and alienated almost everyone around him. It has been suggested that he was a homosexual. Eventually King William was shot dead whilst out hunting in the middle of the New Forest. His companions immediately fled the scene; so, not surprisingly, there were many rumours of murder!

The pictures on this page are cropped examples of images in our high resolution photo library. Please e-mail us for details of these or similar image availability at our very reasonable reproduction rates. Location release may be required for some photos.
