1 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων 2 εἰπὸν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ καὶ λάβετέ μοι ἀπαρχὰς παρὰ πάντων οἷς ἂν δόξῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ καὶ λήμψεσθε τὰς ἀπαρχάς μου 3 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἀπαρχή ἣν λήμψεσθε πα{R'} αὐτῶν χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ χαλκὸν 4 καὶ ὑάκινθον καὶ πορφύραν καὶ κόκκινον διπλοῦν καὶ βύσσον κεκλωσμένην καὶ τρίχας αἰγείας 5 καὶ δέρματα κριῶν ἠρυθροδανωμένα καὶ δέρματα ὑακίνθινα καὶ ξύλα ἄσηπτα 6 7 καὶ λίθους σαρδίου καὶ λίθους εἰς τὴν γλυφὴν εἰς τὴν ἐπωμίδα καὶ τὸν ποδήρη 8 καὶ ποιήσεις μοι ἁγίασμα καὶ ὀφθήσομαι ἐν ὑμῖν 9 καὶ ποιήσεις μοι κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐγώ σοι δεικνύω ἐν τῷ ὄρει τὸ παράδειγμα τῆς σκηνῆς καὶ τὸ παράδειγμα πάντων τῶν σκευῶν αὐτῆς οὕτω ποιήσεις
1 And now the Lord gave Moses this message, 2 Bid the Israelites bring me gifts in kind, each man offering what his heart prompts him to offer, for your acceptance. 3 And these are the gifts you will declare to be acceptable, gold, silver and bronze; 4 threads of blue and purple and scarlet twice-dyed, and lawn, and goats’ hair, 5 and rams’ fleeces dyed red, and skins dyed violet;[1] acacia wood, 6 and oil to feed lamps, spices for the anointing-oil, and sweet-smelling incense; 7 onyx-stones, too, and jewels, to be set in the priestly mantle and burse. 8 I mean them to build me a sanctuary, so that I can dwell among them; 9 this tabernacle-dwelling itself and the appurtenances to be used in it must be of the pattern which I will now shew thee. Listen, then, to the fashion of it.
1 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens: 2 Loquere filiis Israël, ut tollant mihi primitias: ab omni homine qui offeret ultroneus, accipietis eas. 3 Hæc sunt autem quæ accipere debeatis: aurum, et argentum, et æs, 4 hyacinthum et purpuram, coccumque bis tinctum, et byssum, pilos caprarum, 5 et pelles arietum rubricatas, pellesque janthinas, et ligna setim: 6 oleum ad luminaria concinnanda: aromata in unguentum, et thymiamata boni odoris: 7 lapides onychinos, et gemmas ad ornandum ephod, ac rationale. 8 Facientque mihi sanctuarium, et habitabo in medio eorum: 9 juxta omnem similitudinem tabernaculi quod ostendam tibi, et omnium vasorum in cultum ejus.

31 καὶ ποιήσεις λυχνίαν ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ τορευτὴν ποιήσεις τὴν λυχνίαν ὁ καυλὸς αὐτῆς καὶ οἱ καλαμίσκοι καὶ οἱ κρατῆρες καὶ οἱ σφαιρωτῆρες καὶ τὰ κρίνα ἐξ αὐτῆς ἔσται 32 ἓξ δὲ καλαμίσκοι ἐκπορευόμενοι ἐκ πλαγίων τρεῖς καλαμίσκοι τῆς λυχνίας ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους αὐτῆς τοῦ ἑνὸς καὶ τρεῖς καλαμίσκοι τῆς λυχνίας ἐκ τοῦ κλίτους τοῦ δευτέρου 33 καὶ τρεῖς κρατῆρες ἐκτετυπωμένοι καρυίσκους ἐν τῷ ἑνὶ καλαμίσκῳ σφαιρωτὴρ καὶ κρίνον οὕτως τοῖς ἓξ καλαμίσκοις τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τῆς λυχνίας 34 καὶ ἐν τῇ λυχνίᾳ τέσσαρες κρατῆρες ἐκτετυπωμένοι καρυίσκους ἐν τῷ ἑνὶ καλαμίσκῳ οἱ σφαιρωτῆρες καὶ τὰ κρίνα αὐτῆς 35 ὁ σφαιρωτὴρ ὑπὸ τοὺς δύο καλαμίσκους ἐξ αὐτῆς καὶ σφαιρωτὴρ ὑπὸ τοὺς τέσσαρας καλαμίσκους ἐξ αὐτῆς οὕτως τοῖς ἓξ καλαμίσκοις τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τῆς λυχνίας 36 οἱ σφαιρωτῆρες καὶ οἱ καλαμίσκοι ἐξ αὐτῆς ἔστωσαν ὅλη τορευτὴ ἐξ ἑνὸς χρυσίου καθαροῦ 37 καὶ ποιήσεις τοὺς λύχνους αὐτῆς ἑπτά καὶ ἐπιθήσεις τοὺς λύχνους καὶ φανοῦσιν ἐκ τοῦ ἑνὸς προσώπου 38 καὶ τὸν ἐπαρυστῆρα αὐτῆς καὶ τὰ ὑποθέματα αὐτῆς ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ ποιήσεις 39 πάντα τὰ σκεύη ταῦτα τάλαντον χρυσίου καθαροῦ
31 Make a lamp-stand, too, of pure beaten gold, stem and branches, cups and bosses, and fleurs-de-lis that spring from them.[5] 32 Six branches are to come out of the stem, three on each side; 33 and on each branch there are to be three cups shaped like almond-flowers, then a boss, then a fleur-de-lis, balanced by three cups and a boss and a fleur-de-lis on the opposite branch; such is to be the fashion of all the six branches that come out of the stem. 34 But the stem itself is to have four cups, shaped like almond-flowers, each with its boss and its fleur-de-lis; 35 there will be six branches altogether coming out of a single stem, and under each pair of them there will be an additional boss. 36 The bosses and the branches must be of a piece with the main stem, and all alike must be of pure beaten gold. 37 Make seven lamps, too, and mount them on the lamp-stand, so as to throw their light on the opposite wall.[6] 38 Even the snuffers, and the trays for the burnt wick, must be made of pure gold. 39 The whole weight of the lamp-stand, together with its appurtenances, must be a talent of pure gold.
31 Facies et candelabrum ductile de auro mundissimo, hastile ejus, et calamos, scyphos, et sphærulas, ac lilia ex ipso procedentia. 32 Sex calami egredientur de lateribus, tres ex uno latere, et tres ex altero. 33 Tres scyphi quasi in nucis modum per calamos singulos, sphærulaque simul, et lilium: et tres similiter scyphi instar nucis in calamo altero, sphærulaque simul et lilium. Hoc erit opus sex calamorum, qui producendi sunt de hastili: 34 in ipso autem candelabro erunt quatuor scyphi in nucis modum, sphærulæque per singulos, et lilia. 35 Sphærulæ sub duobus calamis per tria loca, qui simul sex fiunt procedentes de hastili uno. 36 Et sphærulæ igitur et calami ex ipso erunt, universa ductilia de auro purissimo. 37 Facies et lucernas septem, et pones eas super candelabrum, ut luceant ex adverso. 38 Emunctoria quoque, et ubi quæ emuncta sunt extinguantur, fiant de auro purissimo. 39 Omne pondus candelabri cum universis vasis suis habebit talentum auri purissimi.
[1] The word used in the Hebrew text is of uncertain significance, and may perhaps indicate the name of the animal whose skin is referred to.
[2] Literally, ‘a place of atonement’; in the Latin it is also called ‘the oracle’ or shrine. This was evidently a kind of shelf or roof above the ark, regarded in some way as the focal point of the Divine Presence in the tabernacle.
[3] Literally, ‘the ark of the testimony’. Presumably the ark was so called as containing the tablets of the Law; the tabernacle itself is called the tabernacle of testimony, or record, in 27.21 below.
[4] Literally, in the Latin version, ‘censers’.
[5] ‘Fleurs-de-lis’; in the Hebrew text simply ‘flowers’. They were perhaps sockets spread out like open flowers to receive the seven lamps.
