To Orwell Today,
re: ORWELL REVIEWS ZAMYATIN'S WE

Hello,

I actually just found your website, and i just finished reading Yevgeny Zamyatins "We". I finished Orwells 1984 and Huxleys Brave New World before reading this book.

Being Serbian (Slavic), it was great to find a Russian dystopian writer. This book was incredible, i would even say better then Brave New World and 1984. I felt it had more meaning and more depth and metaphors about society and people in general.

Anyways, i noticed that people posted their beliefs on the book and even Orwells (obviously your site is about Orwell) novels. Can i send or post my opinions on any of Orwells or Zamyatins book?

My next book that i am planning to read is Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. I want to read all of Orwells books (i have only read Animal Farm and 1984. Animal Farm actually spawned me into being very interested with Communism) and your website is magnificent.

Well, email back soon and tell me how it all works. I would love to discuss 1984, We (i noticed on the site you haven't read it, have you yet?), Brave New World, or Animal Farm. Maybe a discussion board or something.

All the best,
Mateja Lekic

PS - I noticed a reader was confused on We. I would be happy to write in the answers, but some may be opinions.

Greetings Mateja,

I am very glad to welcome you as a reader to "Orwell Today" which is, as you say, all about Orwell (and issues that Orwell was interested in - in essence, freedom from tyranny for every nation in the world).

That's wonderful that you are planning to read "Down and Out in Paris and London" and all of Orwell's other books besides "Animal Farm" and "1984" which you have read so far. I have excerpts from all of them in the ORWELL'S OTHER BOOKS section. My favourite is "Burmese Days".

I did finally read "We" (after I'd discovered Orwell's review of it) and I did enjoy parts of it although I must admit that it didn't hold anywhere near as much material for me to contemplate as does Orwell's masterpiece "1984".

Yes, please do send your opinions on Zamyatin's "WE" etc and I will put them in the READERS' EMAIL section which is the discussion forum for "Orwell Today".

All the best,
Jackie Jura

PS - Your answers (opinions) to the reader's questions about "We" would be much appreciated.
