The Clash were formed in 1976 during the growing punk wave which they embraced and defined into the 1980's. The Clash consisted of Mick Jones, Joe Strummer (who left The 101'ers for the band), Paul Simonon, Terry Chimes, and Keith Levene (who left the band soon after it formed). Their first major gig came with the 'Anarchy In The UK' tour with The Sex Pistols.

The Clash is released in the UK (and in the US 2 years later).

Chimes left the band and was replaced with Topper Headon.

Give 'Em Enough Ropewas released.

The Clash released the double-LP London Calling.

September 1: Strummer and Simonon fired Mick Jones from the band. New additions to the band include guitarists Vince White and Nick Sheppard, and drummer Pete Howard.

The new lineup of the Clash released Cut The Crap which doesn't do well with critics or sales.

The Clash disbanded and Jones soon formed Big Audio Dynamite.

The Story Of The Clash, Volume 1 was released.

The box set The Clash On Broadway was released.

The Clash was certified gold.

London Callingwas certified gold.
