Def Leppard began its formation in 1977 in the UK as 'Atomic Mass' with Rick Savage on bass, Pete Willis on guitar, Steve Clark on guitar, Tony Kenning on drums, and Joe Elliott on vocals. In 1978, the band officially named themselves 'Def Leppard' and replaced Kenning with Frank Noon (to record The Def Leppard EP) and then Rick Allen on drums (only 15 at the time). In 1979, Def Leppard signed a recording deal and toured in support of Sammy Hagar and AC/DC.

Guitarist Pete Willis left the group and replaced with Phil Collen.
