The Jacksons began as a trio of brothers from Gary, Indiana, with just Jermaine, Tito and Jackie calling themselves 'The Jackson Family.' When brothers Michael and Marlon joined, the name was changed to the Jackson 5. The brothers sang together at talent shows and various performances throughout the mid-1960s, including a talent contest a the Apollo in Harlem which they won. The Jackson 5 soon found themselves opening for such acts as the Emotions, the Temptations, the O'Jays, and Gladys Knight (who recommended them to Berry Gordy of Motown (which signed the brothers on July 26, 1968).
In December, 1969,Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5 was released and the group appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The Jackson 5 topped the charts with "I Want You Back."

Moving Violation was released.June 30: The Jackson 5 renamed themselves 'The Jacksons' after leaving Motown for Epic Records and lawsuits over royalties were filed by both sides, as well as the group finding out that Gordy had patented the groups name and they would be unable to record under it. Jermaine, still married to Gordy's daughter, left the group and was replaced by his brother Randy.
The Jackson 5 hit the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "I Am Love (Part 1 & 2)."

But nothing happened during the year.

But nothing happened during the year and likely wouldn't in the near future as child molestation charges were brought against Michael.
