After studying musical theater and briefly attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, Mraz continued his music interests and songwriting until signing with Elektra Records in 2002. Prior to his label signing, Mraz fine-tuned his music in the local music spots of San Diego. January: Mraz released Live & Acoustic. October: Mraz released Waiting For My Rocket To Come. Rolling Stone said of the LP: "Mraz swoops from lows to highs and back again with a haunting poignancy that simply makes you ache." May 3: Mraz hit the ARC Weekly Top 40with "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)." July 26: Mraz hit the Top 10 with "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)." August: Waiting For My Rocket To Come was certified gold.
