The 'Rockabilly' trio, the Stray Cats formed in 1979 in New York with Brian Setzer on vocals and guitars, Lee Rocker on bass, and Slim Jim Phantom on drums. The Stray Cats first found success with their Rockabilly sound in the UK with the Top 10 hit "Runway Boys" before hitting it big in the US.
Stray Cats was released overseas and produced by Dave Edmunds. The hit "Rock This Town" went Top 10 in the UK. Other songs to chart in the UK included "Stray Cat Strut," "The Race Is On," and "You Don't Believe Me."
Gonna Ball was released overseas.

The video for "(She's) Sexy + 17" was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography.By the end of the year, conflicts with the group resulted in Stray Cats breaking up. Phantom and Rocker went on to team up with Earl Slick to form Phantom, Rock & Slick, while Setzer attempted a solo career.
The trio reunited to record Rock Therapy and then returned to their other musical projects.
Blast Off! was released with the Stray Cats reuniting once again.
Let's Go Faster! was released.
Greatest Hits was released.
Original Cool was released and soon the Stray Cats decided to go in separate directions once again.
Choo Choo Hot Fish was released.
