He played in 55 consecutive matches for Austria (caps 1 to 55 below), from November 14, 1948, to May 2, 1956, possibly a world record, without being substituted until his 54th appearance against Brazil, when he was replaced in the 40th minute. He held the Austrian capsrecord from May 26, 1957 (when he equalled the total of Ernst Ocwirk) until June 23, 1998 (when his total was surpassed by Anton Polster).
