Remarks: considering all 23 players with at least 10 competitive goals for Oranje, by far the best rate of goals scored per (competitive) match is held by Johan Cruijff, with 78%, including a very impressive 92% in qualifying matches and a rather less spectacular 38% in final tournaments; he is followed by Ruud van Nistelrooij with 69%, fairly evenly distributed over World Cups and European Championships, qualifying matches and final tournaments (it remains a shame he was not fielded against Portugal at the 2006 World Cup); Klaas Jan Huntelaar, John Bosman and Ruud Geels all scored in roughly two out of three competitive matches; Memphis Depay, still active, Robin van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert all boast rates of (just) over 50% (Kluivert, born on the same day as "Van the Man", played one more competitive match for Oranje but managed only three quarters of his goal tally); Marco van Basten has the poorest record among reputed Dutch goalgetters with a mere 43%, including a catastrophical 11% in World Cup matches (a tournament at which his coaching left much to be desired as well); Van Basten played as many competitive matches for the Netherlands as Van Nistelrooij but scored fewer than two thirds of his amount of goals.
