History in a Pecan Shell

Settlement began in the late 1870s, and the community had a post office by 1884. By 1890 the post office was joined by a store, church, gin and gristmill. In 1903 the Ida post office closed and the population dropped in the 1930s to a mere 25 people - half of its high water-mark of 50. From World War II the estimated population has remained at 50 - a figure the town is evidently comfortable with.
