History in a Pecan Shell

The community began in the 1850s under the name Jacob's Prairie, although the Concord Baptist Church (oganized 1844) was already there. By 1887 the change to Jacobia had been made.

The population high-water mark was 200 when the town had a post office, grist mill, and a cotton gin, although the post office closed by 1903. As Greenville grew, it drained the population from Jacobia and from a 1904 population of 132 it had fallen to 75 in the mid 1930s. By 1964 it was a mere 25 and that year there wasn't a single business in operation.
