Mercer's Gap, Texas. (original) (raw)

Mercers Gap Tx Church And Tabernacle

History in a Pecan Shell

Settler Jesse Mercer arrived here in the late 1840s. Things were slow in developing and by the time of the census of 1890, the community had only managed to attract 20 residents.

They did have a church and school and there did appear to be some growth. The 1930 count was 65 but that was the last report. Today the church, the cemetery and dispersed residences mark what was Mercers Gap.
