Morgan Mill, Texas. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell
Partners M. C. Laughlin and J. R. Billingsley moved a corn and wheat mill here sometime before 1874. A store opened two years later. George Morgan bought into the mill in 1877 and was influential enough to have the post office named after him when it opened that same year. First called Morgan's Mill - the 's was dropped in 1892.
The town has had a quiet history through the years and from a population of only 143 in 1900, it seems to have hit its zenith in 1940 when there were 261 Morgan Millers living there. Many residents are retirees or commute to Fort Worth or Dallas.

I was wondering if anyone knew where George Morgan came from or who he married, parents etc.... I am a Morgan and have been researching my family for a few years now. I first drove through Morgan's Mill about a year ago and since have been curious about the town. - Tim & Rhonda Frasier, Gainesville, Texas, October 22, 2012
