History in a Pecan Shell

Novice was settled in the first part of the 20th Century. There are two suggested origins of the name, one based on a family named Navis and the other claiming that the new village was named because it was a novice. Whichever case is true, the village only had a population of ten in the 1930s. The proximity to Paris stopped any growth and older maps show it as being dispersed with no center. Population figures stopped in the 1950s. It remains on the detailed county map and the state map.
