Peaster, Texas, Parker County. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell
H. H. Peaster is the towns namesake. Moving from Georgia in the 1870s, Peaster bought land here and promptly built a house. Originally called Freemont, the community underwent a change of name (to Peasterville) in the mid 1880s. Sometime later the ville suffix was dropped. The population reached 100 in the 1890s, growing to 300 residents in the mid 1920s.
The Great Depression left Peaster with just a third of the 1920s population. It hit a low of 80 residents by the mid 1970s but was back over 100 in the year 2,000.

"The sculpture stands just north of town. Appears to be affiliated with a religious retreat/entity next door as best I could determine. Quite large and impressive anyway." - Mike Price, July 2009
