History in a Pecan Shell
Named after a huge tree that grew in or near the towns main street, Postoak developed in the late 1870s. It acquired a post office in that decade and the town had most essential businesses by the 1880s. The community enjoyed a peaceful history without any disasters, feuds or calamities. The population has been consistent from the 30s through the 70s just above 100 residents. It declined in 80s reaching 79 for the 1990 Census the same number reported for the year 2000.

A Visit to Postoak, Texas
Photographer's Note:
Postoak Texas - Appears to have once supported a small business district. Certainly more than any of the many small 'towns' I visited today, at least more of the buildings are still there. The small white building appears that it might have been a church at one time. - Mike Price, September 2009
