History in a Pecan Shell

Stephen F. Austin's second group founded Allenfarm between 1821 and 1831. The community was named after plantation owner Robert A. Allen.

A post office was granted in 1885 and closed in the 1940s. The 1902 population was listed as 100 residents - served by a store, two cotton gins and three saloons. Schools and a church came later.

The population fell to 75 in the 1940s and by the mid 1960s it had fallen to a mere fifteen. It had risen to 40 by 1970 and the 2000 census counted thirty residents.
