History on a Pinhead
Settled in the late 1870s and early 1880s, It was named after German immigrant August Appelt. The community had one of seven shooting clubs in Lavaca County and today, 128 years after it was organized, the club is still in existence. Appelt Hill was too close to Hallettsville for it to prosper, but it remains as a place on the detailed TxDoT map of Lavaca County.
Photographer's Note:
Appelt Hill is about 5.5 miles northeast of Hallettsville. There was no marker to give its history. The Club was obviously an old church building. Well kept up. -
