History in a Pecan Shell
Flynn was named after Edward J. Flynn who was a railroad official and probably never set foot in town. The railroad (Trinity and Brazos Valley) came through in 1906 and they got a post office in 1909.
We have no idea how they got their mail before the post office - maybe the Railway Post Office just threw it off the train and the residents found it the next morning.
There was a two-story school and a two-story hotel in Flynn at one time in its history, but no evidence is standing today. The 20s were a prosperous time for Flynn. It had a leather shop, caf, phone office, lumberyard, chair factory, ice-house and a grist-mill, as well as the previously mentioned school.
Today the population is less than 100 and the one store seems to be a gathering place for Flynn residents.
