New Wehdem, Texas, Austin County. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell
A nearby community once known as Wehdem was settled in the 1860s. In the 1930s the population started moving to the present site. The name New Wehdem started appearing as "New" Wehdem after WWII. The population was near 150 in the mid 60s but it has since declined to around 100.
This New New Wehdem is not to be confused with the Old New Wehdem of the 1890s (the original name of Wehdem a few miles to the northwest).
