History in a Pecan Shell

The bridges of the community now provide the presence of the community. Once known as Sour Springs, from the high sodium carbonate content of the water, it was changed to the easier-to-swallow name of Soda Springs, although no one is sure of the date.

A Sour Springs post office was in existence briefly (1857 1880). The town was on maps into the 1940s when the flow of the springs was still notable. A drastic decrease occurred between the late 40s and the mid 1970s.

Photographers Note:
The Soda Springs Bridge over Plum Creek was built in 1920 and is 181 long. As you can see, the bridge is not very approachable. I had to climb on limbs to get the picture of the bridge deck. - Barclay Gibson
