Turkey Creek, Texas, Washington County ghost town. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell

A local family (The Guytons) contributed the name to this fledgling community in 1840.

Turkey Creek was a contender in the 1843 election for permanent county seat. It shared the same fate as nearby Mount Vernon when Brenham won the election.

Nothing today remains of the community.
