A painful accident befell Lucy Buchanan, one of County Clerk Buchanan's little girls, Saturday morning. She was riding a horse and was swept out of the saddle by an overhanging limb; falling on her left hand, the arm was broken just above the wrist. The attending physician says it was almost a compound fracture.

Tom Willis threw our city into violent excitement Monday night by the shooting of John Stoner. The altercation and its terrible conclusion took place at the Exchange saloon about 9 o'clock at night. Stoner received a pistol shot wound in the back of his head, which passed through the brain and crushed the skull.

The young man was conveyed to the residence of Mr. Wm. Dillard on a litter in an unconscious condition. Mr. Willis was arrested and yesterday morning was given bond by Justice Townsend in the sum of $750 to await the result of the young man's injuries.

John Stoner died last night about 10 o'clock. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock.

T. A. Hill will have a cement sidewalk placed in front of his bank.

The passenger train due here at 11:30 a.m. was five hours late Thursday.

Post Special: Ellinger, Texas, March 4 -- A monstrosity in the form of a pig was exhibited here yesterday by Elo Meyer, son of our representative. The pig was born dead and had six legs, one head with a mouth on each side and two eyes with an opening in the middle of the head as if for an eye. Messrs. Beyer & Weber, druggists, have secured it and put it in alcohol for preservation.

Schulenburg, Texas. Mr. Walter Upton returned this evening from San Antonio a married man. Walter got away with the boys on this, as it was a complete surprise to them. His friends all extend their heartiest congratulations to him and wife, and wish them bon voyage through life.

Patent folding beds caused the death of fifty-six children in New York City last year.

Our neighboring city of Flatonia shipped a car of 12,000 dozen eggs to Boston, Mass., this week.

Someone stabbed James Quarles, formerly of the LaGrange Democrat, Saturday night in Waco.

Victoria Advocate: The town of Weimar and Columbus will soon be lighted by electricity. Southwest Texas has seen some wonderful changes during the last five years.

The monkey and bear show, with a large caravan of attendants, consisting of men, women, children, mules, ponies, chickens, dogs, etc., took in and passed through our town Friday.

At Guthrie, Ok., a few days since, a 5-year-old child committed suicide by shooting itself in the head with a pistol.

One of the drummer fraternity (of which there is occasionally an impertinent fool) having indulged in very offensive language about Cuero girls, was treated by the boys to a few lessons in politeness and rope dancing last Sunday night. Whenever he failed to jump at the proper moment his carcass hit the ground with a thud. After his initiation into the third degree of this "K. of P." he left town a sadder and a wiser man.
