History in a Pecan Shell

Dating from a Mexican Land Grant in 1828, Thomas Williams and William Elliott were the recipients. The community had a pre-Civil War post office which opened in 1851 and closed soon after the war, reopening in 1870 only to close in 1905.

The town had a population of 150 in the early 1880s which fell to a mere 50 by 1892. It had risen to 100 for 1896 but went into a slow decline and by the mid 1940s, Caledonia was down to 25 residents.

Caledonia Texas is located on highway US-84 at the intersection of FM-1971, 9-miles east of Mount Enterprise, 7-miles west of Timpson, 19-miles southwest of Carthage.
