History in a Pecan Shell
The Name: The unusual name was actually that of a little girl who died in infancy. Her father was store owner W.W. Crockett and when he applied for a post office it was little Dimple's name he filled in on the application. The name was accepted, but Dimple's father moved on, perhaps thinking he wouldn't be constantly reminded of his daughter in a new town.
The story comes from Clarksville Attorney Jack O. Herrington who sent the story into Little Towns of Texas* where it was published in 1981.
The post office was open from 1901 to 1921. The population was listed as 25 from 1914 to 1986.
