Savannah, Texas. (original) (raw)
History on a Pinhead
Very little history is available on this Savannah. The other (Red River County) is a ghost town but they once had a post office and a few businesses.
The only history available is on the one-teacher school which was in existence in 1899. No population figures are available. In the 1930s the school was described as being five miles from the nearest store, so its unlikely that Savannah ever had a town center. After consolidation with the Jefferson school in 1955, Savannah lost a good part of its identity. In the early 1960s a few scattered residences and a church made up the town and it remained so on the map in the 1980s.
