Toomey, Texas, Shelby County . (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell

Named for Parson Toomey, the community briefly (1894-1907) had its own post office. Evidently little to nothing happened here for the first half of the 20th Century and the town only had a mere 30 residents by the end of WWII.

Things have gotten worse for Toomey, Texas and it lost its status as a named community by the late 1980s. Its name now appears only on old maps and perhaps as a postmark on crumbling brown envelopes.
