Banjo Man. (original) (raw)

His banjo was
his right arm
his hand up to others
his music box
which plunked out song
after song
in joyous exaltation
of the human spirit

America's ramblin' troubadour
Pete is now gone
this land was his land
is still his land
made greater by his voice
ringing out in union
with so many causes

His life as full
as the fabric of America itself
celebrating the struggles
of the common folk
his songs live on
forever sung

his life ended as he lived it
with a song in his heart
his last breath still singing
the happiest of notes.
