Indianola. (original) (raw)
Atown once washed by bright sunrays
suddenly got washed away,
could not withstand the wind and waves
its memory is all that's saved
Indianola was its name
how sweet the sound, how great its fame
poor immigrants from all lands came
some made it safe, some died in vain
A town that prospered, port o'call
drew people to it, one and all
its promise rising, bright and tall
who knew disaster would befall
For in the year, 1875
in darkened sky, a storm arrived
and sunk the town, and thus it seems
along with it, so all its dreams
Now where it was, only a beach
just toppled tombstones left to teach,
the lesson learned, conceived in pain
beware the path of hurricanes
For nature is too tall for each
no seawall made that can't be breached,
all we can do is step aside
let hope arise from ebbing tides
Oh treacherous sea, oh howling wind
we hope you never come again,
so many dreams you set adrift
yet freedom's dream, we still have left
Although fair Indianola died
the call of freedom still applies,
despite the storms in all our lives
the idea remains, somehow survives.
