that beats within
an unselfish heart

is the signal that
something great is about
to happen
the tail of the dog
is a metronome beating to
a song of simple happiness
the tail of the dog
is a curl of warmth
that wraps around a dreary room
the tail of the dog
is uncontrollable excitement
when the master enters the room
the tail of the dog
is a medicine that eases
all aches and pains
worries and cares
that have balled up inside
the tail of the dog is the muted voice
of pure devotion and
unconditional love.
