Till Death Do Us Part. (original) (raw)

Awoman waits
for 60 years
resolved to know
the truth she fears,
to know the fate
of one held dear
her love of life
who disappeared

They said they just
could not keep track
just knew he wasn't
coming back,
the story changed
with each contact
somewhere out there
the tragic facts

Then one day
it came to light
her man had died
in one good fight,
he gave his life
in northern France
his plane shot down
he had no chance

The village
that the hero saved
still honors him
adorns his grave,
remembers him
each year amazed
an American
could be so brave

The widow smiles
kindly forgives
remembers him
as if he lived,
and bares no grudges
no contempt
his story known
she is content

Devotion given
from the start
still burns brightly
in her heart,
she is his wife
forever cleft
and loves him like
he never left.
