History in a Pecan Shell

The town was developed in 1927 by local banker and landowner Edward Couch, who played a large role in the development of other communities in the Valley.

The San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway arrived in the late 20s and a post office opened in 1927.

In 1931 the town was a shipping point for cotton and vegetables. When they weren't loading vegetables, workers could read the Edcouch Enterprise - the town's paper. The population was reported at just under 1,000. The town incorporated in '33. In '41 the population was 1,700 and by 1958 it was just short of 3,000.

The town had a church, school and movie theater, but it has lost some of it's individuality in recent years.
