Granjeo, Texas, Hidalgo County. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell
The Granjeo Cemetery dates from 1872 and is the only witness to Granjeos early years. In the 1930s there were a cluster of residences, although the proximity to McAllen quashed any hopes of growth (had there been any). In the late 1940s there was a church here as well as a school. A colonia developed at the site in the 1960s, providing new residents to bring the population up to 545 by the mid 1970s, decreasing to 450 by the mid 1980s and declining to just 293 for the 2010 census.
