El Oso TX Cotton Gin

History on a Pinhead

Although early population figures are unavailable, Zunkerville was established prior to 1920 when it was named after merchant and cotton gin owner H. R. Zunker. Zunkers year of arrival is listed as being 1916.

The community did have churches and a school and as late as 1961 the community had 70 residents. Today the only evidence of a community is an abandoned cotton gin.
