The Muralist

Suzanne Scheuer (1898-1984) was a Caliifornia-based artist who attended the California School of Fine Arts and taught art in various California schools.

Beside the mural Indians Moving installed at the Caldwell Post Office in 1939 (presently hanging in the Burleson County courthouse), she also painted Indian Buffalo Hunt which remains in the Eastland post office where it was installed the same year that Indians Moving was painted. Another of her murals is in the main post office in Berkeley, California and perhaps her most ambitious project was a fresco mural for San Franciscos Coit Tower, representing the newspaper business.

Photographer's Note:
The Burleson County judge, Mike Sutherland, said that the Post Office is closed but they took the mural out before the building was sold. It's now hanging in the main lobby of the courthouse. - Terry Jeanson, 2010
