Eighteen spans of cut limestone comprise this WPA project that is said to be the finest examples of roadwork under that Federal program.
The bridge was constructed from 1940 through 1942 and is 433 feet long, making it the longest of its type in Texas. State engineers designed the bridge to withstand flooding and release of water from the Morris Sheppard Dam, although it has been covered by water on several occasions.
