History in a Pecan Shell

Clarkwood�s namesake was Z. H. Clark, a developer who established the town in 1909. It received a post office that same year. Located on the Texas Mexican Railroad, the town had an advantage when oil was discover in the 1930s. From a mere forty residents in 1925, Clarkwood peaked in the mid 1960s with 350 residents served by fourteen businesses.

In 1966 Clarkwood was annexed by the city of Corpus Christi.
