Glen Texas. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell

The community was located on what has evolved into FM 563 near present-day Oak Island. The Glen post office opened in 1905 and closed in 1918.

The town suffered a major hurricane in 1915 followed by a severe freeze the following year. Local farmers that managed to survive these two calamities, were further hit by plunging prices for crops after the end of WWI.

The site of the town was part of the Brown and Root shipyard in the 1970s.
