History in a Pecan Shell
A planned community that was proposed in the late 1880s, Harbor City never grew beyond an Inn opened to accommodate potential investors.
Although a plat was filed for a town and a planned road connecting the would-be community to Portland, the Ingleside Inn was the only tangible asset of the developer's dream. A bad economy dashed hopes for a town, but the inn survived into the 1920s, ferrying guests daily from Corpus Christi. In 1913 a post office was opened but was moved in 1917 to Ingleside. The population was reported as 40 in 1914 and in the mid 1920s the site was renamed Port Ingleside although some maps still show it's name as Harbor City.
