History in a Pecan Shell

Midfield reached its high population in 1914 when there were about 300 Midfielders.

It was a stop on the railroad (The Texas and New Orleans) and had two general stores, a lumberyard, a bank and it was even connected with the outside world by telephone. The population was halved by 1925 and the blow that kept Midfield down was the school consolidation in 1949.

Today, Midfield is surrounded by sod farms - an industry that the early settlers never imagined.
