History in a Seashell

The community only dates from 1960 and was a planned subdivision. Development was delayed due to Hurricane Carla in 1961 but in time, the houses were built alongside a dredged canal.

Residents worked and shopped in Rockport. It never incorporated and is considered by most people to be a bedroom community to Rockport. The population figure was given as 125 for both the 1990 and 2000 census.
