History on a Pinhead Settled by Polish immigrants as early as the 1850s, the communitys centerpiece was the St. Francis Catholic Church, the first Catholic church in Matagorda County. (Not counting Spanish Missions.)
Built in 1895. the church was destroyed the following year and rebuilt before 1897. Heavily damaged by subsequent storms, it survived and although theres no present population, the church (and cemetery) are still in use for special occasions.
