History in a Pecan Shell

Comal Town has actually been a part of New Braunfels since 1847, but since the two are separated by the Comal River, it has retained a degree of independence.

Juan Mart�n de Veramendi had received a land grant from the government of Mexico in 1831. Maria A. Veramendi Garza was heir to the holdings and where her husband started selling small parcels of the property in 1846, settlement began.

After the �town� merged with the general population of New Braunfels, the community maintained a school. Comal Town was designated �Ward 2� of New Braunfels around 1850. In 1947 Comal Town�s two elementary schools merged with the New Braunfels�s ISD.
