History on a Pinhead

The Handbook of Texas states that this Elm Grove (one of many communities with the same name) "probably began by the early 1900s." The abbreviated entry goes on to include that the community stayed on highway maps through the 1930s, displaying a church and school. The 2000 census reported a mere 15 people - and "only the locale itself" appeared on highway maps.

Elm Grove was suggested for inclusion by John Donahoo who wrote:
"I noticed on your website that you have five communites/towns documented that go by the name Elm Grove. I just wanted to let someone know that there is at least one more that you may not be aware of.

There is a community in northern McCulloch County called Elm Grove that does not appear in your text. It is located on FM 765 a few miles east of U.S. Highway 377. I know for a fact that it is there, (I was shocked to even find it on an internet map site) because my grandparents on both sides of the family were born in the nearby communities of Indian Creek, Mercury and Milburn went to school at Elm Grove. About a dozen other of my ancestors are named on the town memorial out side the old school house. There is not too much still remaining of the community, it never was very large to begin with, but the old one room school house has been turned into a community center and local museum.
